# Who publishes this site, and who hosts it

This page says who answers for the site, where it runs and what it stores in your browser.

Facteur is not in production yet. A passage in square brackets holds a piece of information the publisher has not declared yet: it will be filled in before launch, and we do not make it up.

## Cookies and audience measurement

The site sets no tracking cookie. It keeps two choices in your browser, only when you make the matching choice.

- The `facteur_lang` cookie remembers the language you chose, `fr` or `en`, for one year. It is set for the Facteur domain, not for the site alone: the application reads it and opens in the same language. A choice made in the application replaces it.
- The `facteur-theme` cookie remembers your choice of light or dark theme, `light` or `dark`, for one year. It is shared with the application the same way. The `theme` key of local storage keeps a copy of it, which never leaves your browser.

Audience measurement goes through an Umami hosted by the company that publishes Facteur. It sets no cookie.

## Licences and attributions

Facteur reads the country of an IP address in the IP Geolocation database by [DB-IP](https://db-ip.com), published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence (CC BY 4.0). The database is copied onto the server: no address is sent to it. The distance between two countries relies on the country centres of [world-countries-centroids](https://github.com/gavinr/world-countries-centroids), under the MIT licence. The team console compares the address an account came in from with the list of exit nodes published by the [Tor Project](https://www.torproject.org) (Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 US) and with the [IPsum](https://github.com/stamparm/ipsum) list (Unlicense), which the server downloads every day: no address is sent to them.
