What the service does, and what it expects from you

These terms describe the service as it works today. The clauses on payment, liability and applicable law are still to be declared.

Facteur is not in production yet. A passage in square brackets holds a piece of information the publisher has not declared yet: it will be filled in before launch, and we do not make it up.

The service

Facteur gives your automated tests their own email addresses. It receives the emails on their behalf and hands them back through an API and through the application, with the one-time codes and links already extracted. SMS numbers can already be requested, but receiving SMS is not yet in service.

Account and organization

You create an account with an email address you proved with a code. An account belongs to one or more organizations. The organization holds the plan, the members, the workspaces, the addresses and the volume.

An API key gives access to the messages of its scope. Keep it secret: you can revoke it from the application at any time.

Volume and limits

Your volume is counted per organization, in messages received and kept. Reading a message uses nothing. The API accepts 600 requests per minute and per key.

When a limit is reached, Facteur records the message with the status quota_exceeded instead of keeping it, and nothing is billed for it. The sender gets no error. A late payment also suspends reception.

Retention

Each message is deleted when the retention period of your plan ends, with its raw file and its attachments. The deletion runs every hour and cannot be turned off. Do not entrust Facteur with a message you must keep longer.

Acceptable use

Facteur is a test environment. It is not designed to receive production mail meant for real users. You agree not to use it to:

  • receive real personal data, in particular sensitive data within the meaning of article 9 of the GDPR;
  • relay, send or host unsolicited communications;
  • work around its technical limits, or use it in a way that degrades the service for other customers;
  • receive production mail meant for real end users.

Trial service without an account

The site hands out a test address without an account. Getting such an address means accepting these terms.

A trial address is not confidential. The trial has no password and no second factor: anyone can write to the address, and the mailbox opens with a token kept by the browser that asked for it. Whoever uses that browser during the hour reads what arrives. Never have a password reset link, a code for a real account, an identity document, an invoice, or any data you would not publish yourself sent there.

Its limits.

  • A trial address receives for 60 minutes, then stops receiving.
  • It accepts 10 messages at most.
  • One requester has one active address at a time: asking for a new one ends the previous one.
  • Attachments are listed by name, type and size. They cannot be downloaded.
  • No interface meant for a program is provided: no message listing, no raw file, no webhook. How the trial works may change without notice.

The trial comes with no guarantee of availability, delay, delivery or retention.

Forbidden uses. On top of the acceptable use above, a trial address must not be used to:

  • receive mail meant for someone else, or pass yourself off as another person;
  • get around an identity check, a know-your-customer procedure or a sign-up limit set by a third party;
  • create or activate an account with a third party;
  • receive unlawful content, or sensitive data within the meaning of article 9 of the GDPR;
  • load-test the service, or automate its use;
  • resell, redistribute or embed the trial in another service.

Deletion of the data. The messages received on a trial address are deleted one day later. The journal of the trial (the type of action, the instant, a fingerprint of the requester and the name of the browser, never the IP address) is kept 12 months, as the privacy policy says. A trial address cannot be taken over into an account.

Refusal and interruption. Facteur refuses a trial address beyond a number of requests per hour, per requester and for the whole service. The publisher may also refuse an address, end a trial or suspend the trial without notice, in particular when it is used against this article. The trial creates no vested right.

Reporting abuse. An abusive or unlawful use of a trial address is reported to hello@facteur.eu.

Availability and service levels

The availability commitment, how it is measured and where it is published: [To be declared before production]

No status page is published today.

Support

A support session lasts one hour at most, requires a reason and is announced by a banner. The team reads in it to diagnose. It writes only if an owner or an administrator allows it, and never touches the password, the email address, the second factor or the deletion of the account.

Suspension and termination

  • You delete your account from the application. If you are alone in an organization, you delete it first, from the application too.
  • An organization that still has other members, or a paid subscription that has not ended, cannot be deleted: the application refuses and says why.
  • A late payment suspends the reception of messages, as the section "Volume and limits" says.
  • Ending a paid subscription, its notice, the suspension of an account by the publisher and the delay before the data is deleted after closing: [To be declared before production]
