Get warned before reception stops

Facteur writes to you at 80 % of your volume, when the exhaustion date falls before your period ends, and at every step of an unpaid invoice.

Four things can stop your reception: your volume runs out, your spending cap is reached, one day consumes too fast, or an invoice goes unpaid. Facteur writes to you before each one, with nothing to set up.

What you receive, and when

MessageWhen it goes outWhat you do
Quota at 80 %You have used 80 % of the period’s volumeNothing, or buy a pack if the rate keeps up
Quota reachedAll 100 % is usedBuy a pack, or let the overage take over
At this rate, out on…The last few days’ rate empties your volume before the period endsBuy a pack before the date it names
Overage at 50 %You have spent half the cap you allowedNothing, or raise the cap
Overage at 90 %A tenth of that cap is leftBuy a pack: it costs less than the same volume metered
Payment declinedA charge failedUpdate your payment method

Two of them are worth reading in full.

“At this rate, out on 3 September” carries a date, not a percentage. It goes out while there are at least three days left to act: running out the day before your renewal is not news, your volume comes back on its own.

“Overage at 90 %” speaks in euros, because euros are what you set that cap in. At 100 % reception stops: this message is the last one before that, and there is none at 100 %.

If an invoice goes unpaid

A declined charge cuts nothing that day. You receive four messages, then reception stops on the eighth day.

DayWhat happens
1We tell you the charge was declined. Most often it is an expired card
3 and 5A reminder, with the number of days left
7The last message: reception stops tomorrow
8Incoming messages are refused

During those eight days and after, you keep access to the messages you have already received, to their export, to your billing and to support. Nothing is deleted earlier than announced, and your packs are set aside rather than lost. Settling the invoice restores reception and your packs in the same move.

Choose where they arrive

By default these messages go by email to the organization’s owners and administrators. You can add a team channel or an on-call rota.

  1. Open Settings → Destinations.
  2. Click Add a destination.
  3. Choose Slack, Discord, PagerDuty or Opsgenie.
  4. Paste the URL or key the service gives you, then click Add.

An on-call rota such as PagerDuty only rings for an unpaid invoice: it is the one message here that announces a service in the act of stopping. The others arrive as warnings.

Set your own thresholds

Facteur writes to you at 80 % and 100 % of your volume whatever you set, and you can add your own.

  1. Open Quotas and alerts in your workspace.
  2. Tick the thresholds you want among 50 %, 75 %, 80 %, 90 % and 100 %, four at most.
  3. Choose up to three destinations, then save.

Each threshold shows the number of messages it works out to, and the gauge puts today’s consumption on the same line.

You can also set a ceiling per inbox, which stops a runaway suite from consuming everybody’s volume. See Quotas and retention.

Check what was sent to you

Settings → Billing lists every alert that went out, its date and its recipients, beside your pack purchases and your plan changes.

That is the place to open before writing to us: if a message did not reach you, this list says which address it went to.

Known limits

  • One rate alert per period. If your consumption speeds up after it goes out, the date it named is not corrected. That is why the message says “at this rate”.
  • The journal starts when it was put in place. What was sent before is not in it.
